For kids, making a mess can also mean a play. We know that they enjoy such activity. So, parents can use it as a themefor a birthday party. Here are some ideas to have an exciting messy muck and goo-themed birthday party:

Invitations

Your party invitation can be very simple. Just draw or print out a ‘Mr Messy’ character as a basis of the invitation. You can also let your children splatter paint all over various sheets of printed invitations. Then, let them dry and mail them to guests.

Costume ideas

For the costumes, old clothes and smocks will do.

Decorations

As it is a messy-themed party, anything goes on here. You can have it like a normal party with buntings, banners and balloons or you can arrange the decorations messily. Try to add streamers and paper chains as well for good measure.

Activities and games

  • As this involves messy activities, try to have various ‘stations’ around the yard. Also have a ‘cleaning station’, where there’s a big tub of water, soap and some towels to wash off before heading inside or starting another activity.
  • You can buy oversized T-shirts from an op shop and let the kids make their own smocks. The children may stamp their handprints all over the smocks. These will be their costume for each messy activity.
  • Giant bubbles is also another great idea.Try to place 10 cups of cold water in a bucket and add 1 cup of liquid dishwashing soap. Then, add 3-4 tablespoons of liquid glycerine. Stir gently and let it sit for 24 hours before using. Put this on small kids’ paddling pool and have a child use a hula hoop as the bubble wand. They can move the hoop up slowly around the child to encase them in a giant bubble.
  • You can also decorate your own cupcakes. Try to fill a muffin tray with various cake toppers such as silver balls, 100s and 1000s, small M&Ms, lollies or icing flowers. Let the kids decorate them as they please.
